The Southwest Johnson County Economic Development Corporation has created this simulation to demonstrate the possibilities available for the Amazon 2nd Headquarters project. The final location won’t be announced until next year, but the Kansas City metropolitan area is definitely one of the strong contenders. Within the Kansas City area, more than 50 locations were presented to the Kansas City Area Development Council. Gardner/New Century is in the top 17 locations, and was submitted to Amazon.
With a promised 50,000 jobs and an average salary over $100,000, the Amazon HQ2 project has drawn the attention of major cities all across the country.
Greg Martinette, president of the Southwest Johnson County Economic Development Corporation, says, “This is a huge step for us. Even if we don’t get HQ2, we are going to be on the radar for future projects in addition to the two we already have.”
State Representative Bill Sutton adds, “This project has put our area in the spotlight. We stack up favorably with any city in the country. We should be ready to entertain some impressive offers.”
