A pedestrian has died Tuesday night after being hit by a train in Gardner. Investigators said Kelly Blackman, 48, was walking west along the tracks and was hit by a westbound train.
According to Johnson County Med Act, the person was hit by a BNSF train near North Moonlight Road and East Main Street shortly after 6 p.m.
The Moonlight Rd./US 56 intersection was shut down while the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and BNSF Railway police were assisting in the investigation. It is now open for traffic.
This intersection has a history of fatalities. William Gainey of Yankton, S.D. was killed in 2014.
