First Annual Back the Blue 5K Race/Walk hosted by The Gardner Police Dept.
August 19th,2017 – Celebration Park – 7:00am
Back the Blue 5K and Gardner Police Department are working together to host the first annual 5K race/walk. In addition to the 5K, there will be a one mile fun run and different community activities with local enforcement. The goal is to let the community and officers alike get to know each other on a deeper level.
The event will take place at Celebration Park on August 19, 2017. The 5K run will begin at 8:00 am and the one mile fun run will follow at 8:45 am. There will be police demonstrations for the public including a K- demonstration. Lunch is included in the cost of the full race registration fee. The full registration is $45 includes a race shirt, medal, lunch and a discount on select items. If registered by July 1, registration goes down to $35. The one mile fun run is $25 and includes a race shirt. There is also the option to ‘sleep in’ and support the race with a $25 registration fee.
Back the Blue 5K works to bring law enforcement together with their local community. With all the negative press about law enforcement over the past few years, Back the Blue 5K recognized a need to rally behind our police officers, sheriff’s, highway patrol and all other agencies.
“Back the Blue 5K was founded to bring the community and law enforcement together for a day of fellowship and benevolence. The 5K run, coupled with special events, provides an opportunity to show our support for the hometown heroes that protect us every day,” comments Joseph Murphy, Back the Blue 5K President.
We urge the public to attend this event and get to know the people who protect you every single day. A portion of the proceeds from this event goes to help the Gardner Police Department’s training efforts for their new K-9 unit as well the National Canine Association for their training efforts.
