CenturyLink announced that it will not be renewing its lease after June 2020. In a statement from John Idoux, State and Government Affairs for CenturyLink:
“This morning, after careful consideration, CenturyLink informed our employees that it would not renew the lease for 600 New Century Parkway in New Century/Gardner when the lease expires in June 2020. CenturyLink announced this decision to its employees nearly a full year in advance of the facility closure to provide as much transparency as possible. Based on qualifications and business needs, impacted employees will either relocate to other CenturyLink locations, work from home or accept a severance package (the severance option is at management discretion and may not be available to all employees).
Due to rapid technology and industry advancements, CenturyLink continually evaluates and adjusts its operations to meet the needs of the business, customers and employees. As CenturyLink’s real estate footprint is a significate portion of our operations, we have to review and adjust as appropriate. Given CenturyLink has more space than we need, and the New Century facility is not fully utilized, we have reached the difficult decision to not renew the lease.“
Obviously, this far in advance, no new tenant is identified for the 600 New Century Parkway office building, but given its beautiful appearance and proximity to both Gardner and the KC metro area, it’s only a matter of time. The question, then, is “Who will it be?”
