Independence Day!

As you may have noticed from the giant tents set up around town, fireworks sales began on June 28 through July 4.

Listening to the sound of fireworks around town is great, and we appreciate the efforts of some members of the City Council to bring these sounds back to Gardner.  Recognizing this, the staff at the GardnerEdge encourages everyone to shoot fireworks responsibly, and in compliance with the rules.

Legal fireworks can be discharged within city limits on the following dates and times:

Monday, July 2 – 10 AM to 10 PM
Tuesday, July 3 – 10 AM to 11 PM
Wednesday, July 4 – 10 AM to 11 PM

John Adams wrote, of the signing of the Declaration of Independence:

“I am apt to believe that it [Independence Day] will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

“You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. — I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. — Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.”

Celebrate our nation’s Independence Day at Edgerton’s annual Community Picnic and Firework Show on July 3 from 6:00 to 10:30 at Martin Creek Park! Guests can enjoy the park with free food for the picnic while supplies last, music by DJ Phil Davis, inflatables, face painting, yard games and our famous firework show!

Due to limited parking at the event, there will be an event bus shuttle operating from 5:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Bus stop locations will be located at City Hall (404 E. Nelson) and Edgerton Elementary School (400 W. Nelson).

The City of Gardner will hold a July 4th Celebration that includes a dynamic fireworks show in addition to live entertainment, food, games and prizes. Find out more details about this extravaganza at www.gardnerkansas.gov/fourthofJulycelebration.
