Lady Blazers Ending On A Positive

Press Release – GEHS

PThe lady Blazers ended their basketball season on Friday night losing to Olathe South 53-54. Going into the game Olathe South had a record of 20-1 and our girls played one
of their best games of the season.

The girls started hot in the first quarter with 3 pointers from Kynli Nelson and Angeliece Tucker. We were ahead 6-0 but then quickly
went cold ending the first quarter down 9-19. The girls played a tough second quarter and went into half time down 20-29. In the beginning of the third Cassidy Androff went down with an ankle injury and did not return to the game. We found ourselves
down 14 at one point but cut the lead to 12 going into the fourth. We put on a tough press and slowly cut the lead. With 3 minutes left in the game we found ourselves down 6 points. Kelsey Leffert, Angeliece Tucker and Taylor Carpenter fouled out in back to back to back defensive possessions. Kennedy Comstock and Kailey Burger came off the bench at the end of the game and held their own defensively and did an amazing job keeping our momentum going. Kynli Nelson hit a 3 pointer with 2 seconds left to cut the lead to one but we couldn’t foul in time to get one more chance offensively.

It was a tough loss but couldn’t be more proud of the girls and the way they competed. GEHS logged 27 fouls and Olathe South only 11. Free throws were the difference in the game as GEHS shot 17 to South’s 36 chances at the line. Kynli Nelson led the team in scoring with 13 points and Skylar Washington added 10. Angeliece Tucker had 9. Senior Lindsey Plank has committed to play at Neosho County Community College next year. Angeliece Tucker is undecided on her future at this point but has had offers from Neosho and Allen County. Tucker made All EKL Second Team honors. Junior Cassidy Androff and sophomore Taylor Carpenter were All EKL Honorable Mention.

We ended our season with an 11-11 record. Even though this was a loss for the team it was also a highlight for our girls. We were a big underdog going into the game but proved that we could compete with the toughest team in the state. Please congratulate the girls on a great season.
