Olathe, Kan. – Scammers posing as local Bail Bonds Agents have stolen money from several individuals over the last couple of months. The targets are people who have just been released from jail on a bail bond.
The scam begins with a phone call to a person who is out on bond. Often times the scammers will use a phone number that appears to be local; however, as with many scams, the scammers may use Caller ID spoofing, where the number displayed to the receiver is different from the actual telephone number from which the call was placed. They also might use an actual local bail bond agents name.
Bond agents will never ask you to wire money or send money through Western Union. They won’t threaten you or try to intimidate you into acting immediately.
If this happens, hang up and call the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (913) 782-0720 .
