The Kansas Department of Labor’s IT system has been struggling due to the heavy load placed upon it by enormous claims volumes. The high volume can affect claimants ability to do their claim by phone, also. If claimants try by IVR right now, they will receive a “Technical Difficulties” error. That means they cannot get a connection to the mainframe to validate information.
In an effort to fix the issues with the system, it will be taken down for one hour beginning at noon on April 14, 2020. During this time, our phone lines will remain open*; however, our website will not be accessible. The website will be taken down again for one hour beginning at 7:00 pm on April 14, 2020. We hope that the enhancements made during these time frames will allow us to provide better customer service to our fellow Kansans.
In addition, we have a fix from one of our vendors that we will be deploying and testing over the next several hours. Our window is through noon, expect issues with filing claims during this window.
We are cautiously optimistic that these fixes will provide a stable base to build upon, allowing us to move forward with the programming changes required for enhancements to Kansas statute and expanded benefits at the federal level. Thank you.
