Volunteers needed for Gardner’s annual Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration

(Gardner, Kan.) – On Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the City of Gardner will host their annual Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration with the help of community volunteers.

Volunteers will meet at the Gardner Greenway Corridor, located off of Madison Street between N. Center Street and Moonlight Road, to remove trash and debris from the creek bed that winds through the 35-acre parkland of walking trails.

Following the cleanup efforts, volunteers will enjoy a free barbecue lunch, watch a tree-planting demonstration, and participate in prize drawings. This portion of the event will take place at Winwood Park, located along the Greenway Corridor at 520 North White Drive.

Those interested in volunteering should contact the city’s Parks and Recreation Department at 913.856.0936 by April 15 to sign up.
