The Swim Lesson Registration Opening Day is Saturday, April 14 and will be held at Gardner City Hall, 120 E. Main St. and online at

Avoid long lines at City Hall and register online! A small handling fee will be applied to all online registrations.  

Local Author to speak at FirstLight United Methodist Sunday, May 6th 6pm
Ben Simpson, writer, speaker, and theologian from De Soto, Kansas, will be having a lecture/discussion of his new book "Committed to Christ: 40 Devotions for a Generous Life".The lecture will be held at FirstLight's downtown office space at 138 E. National Day of Prayer & Balloon Launch
Please join us on the National Day of Prayer at New Life Community Church in Gardner in lifting up our country with a short time of community prayer.

At the end of the prayer time we will also lift our personal prayers to the Lord with a symbolic balloon launch.

This is a family friendly, free event with refreshments to be served at the conclusion."

Black Jack Battlefield Opening Day
Visit the historic location of the Battle of Black Jack as tour season begins on May 5th at 1pm! There will be a guided tour by John Brown of the battlefield and historical information behind John Brown, the Battle of Black Jack, Bleeding Kansas, and the role that the Santa Fe Trail played in the first battle of the Civil War. Tours will continue on Saturdays and Sundays until October 21st. The battlefield and park is located 3 miles east of Baldwin City, KS and ¼ mile south of Highway 56 in rural Douglas County Kansas.  

One Mile Walk and 5K (Certified & Chip Timed)
The Red Shoe Walk/Willow Run event challenges women, children and especially men to run in the 5K or walk a mile as a symbol of their support for survivors of domestic violence. Participants have the option of either running the 5K on a predetermined route on Clinton Lake Trails or walking a mile, which will take place on the path around the Arboretum. All walkers are encouraged to complete the mile in women’s shoes. Proceeds from this event benefit The Willow Domestic Violence Center. Go to http://www.realmenwearheels.com/ for more information. 

Lost in the 50s Vintage Car Cruise and Hangar Hop
The Commemorative Air Force invites you to Lost in the 50s, a vintage car cruise and hangar hop. Gals...wear your poodle skirt! Guys...slick your hair back! And dance to the 50s sounds of The Benders (www.thebenders.net). Saturday, May 12. Car Cruise 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Hangar Hop, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Dance tickets are $20 per person.
