The Kansas & Western Missouri Division of the Salvation Army are packaging a Million Meals for Haiti this weekend. But they're going to need a lot of volunteer help. Like you. And your family. And your neighbors. The Salvation Army says that they can use anyone age 3 and up.
What can you do? They need volunteers to package food - one hour commitment, no sign-up necessary. They need 'red shirt' leaders to train and lead other volunteers - four hour commitment, signup online. They need people to post flyers and spread the word. They need cash donations to pay or the meals - $.30 covers the cost of ingredients and shipping of each meal.
When is this taking place? Friday, February 26 from 12 pm to 8 pm and Saturday, February 27 from 8 am to 8 pm. Children are welcome to participate with an adult. Show up at the American Royal Building, 1701 American Royal Drive, Kansas City, MO. Please park in Lot A on the south side of the building.
Meals packaged at this event will be flown directly to Haiti for distribution by the Salvation Army. The United Nations has designated the Salvation Army as the lead agency responsible for the care of 20,000 earthquake survivors in Port-au-Prince.
If you watched the devastation from the comfort of your home and wished you could help - you can.
