Dino Wise shows students how to draw cartoon characters
It seems only appropriate that 'Read Across America Day' is celebrated on Dr Seuss's birthday. The works of Dr Seuss (aka Theodor Seuss Geisel) have encouraged millions of children world-wide to read by making reading fun.
Nike Elementary marked Dr Seuss Day with a variety of guests and activities. Guest readers included District Superintendent Dr Bill Gilhaus, District Business & Finance Director Eric Hansen, District Facilities & Operations Director Bill Miller, District Special Services Director Judy Martin, and District Special Services Assistant Director Pam Stranathan.
The entire Nike community got involved in the celebration! Nike reading teacher Cristie Roberts donned her best 'Cat in the Hat' costume. Teacher Lorrie Rhodes put aside her math book for 'The Foot Book'. Building Aids Angela Keeling, Paula Brown and Angie Borjas disappeared, to be replaced by the Cat in the Hat with friends Thing 1 and Thing 2. And Nike custodian Dino Wise shared his considerable artistic talents.
Nike's PTO wanted a piece of the action (everyone loves Dr Seuss!), and so gave each Nike students a brand new book of their very own.
