Thursday, April 1 is 2010 United States Census Day. What does that mean? After April 1, the US Census Bureau will start sending census takers door-to-door to collect census data.
It costs taxpayers $.42 for you to return your census form in the postage paid envelope. It costs taxpayers $25 to send a census taker to your door.
Have you already returned your census form? Congratulations! 2010.census.gov shows that, as of 30 March 2010, 55% of Edgerton households and 52% of Gardner households have returned their forms. That's ahead of the national average!
Why haven't the rest of you returned the form? Protecting your privacy? Return your form, and they won't send someone to your door! Question the legality of some of the questions or of the process? Send in your form and contact your legislators - the census taker who comes to your door won't be able to help you! Too busy? JUST DO IT! Tax dollars are tight. The Census Bureau saves about $85 million in operational costs for every additional 1% of households who mail back their forms.
Census data determines the distribution of federal tax dollars and our representation on the US House of Representatives. Local governments and businesses make decisions based on the data we give them.
