Gardner Community Theatre is celebrating its fifth season with its best production ever – "Annie."

The six shows run over the next two weekends: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday 2 p.m. Sunday, 7 p.m. July 16 and July 17, and 2 p.m. July 18. Tickets are $8 at the door. Pre-sale tickets are available for $7 at the Gardner Price Chopper or from cast members. All performances are in the Gardner Edgerton High School auditorium.

Take a quick look at the cast list. See any familiar names? Maybe have your kids check the list – there are a lot of local kids in this production, plus some teachers! Maybe some of your neighbors, co-workers, friends from church… Part of the fun of community theater is that it’s talent from our community! And don’t be surprised if your kids start bugging you to let them sign up for a GCT Theatre Camp!

Emily Mauer (Annie), Jim Hurd (Daddy Warbucks) and GCT President Dan Naden will be featured on KCTV5 Weekend News at 10:20 am on Sunday, July 11, to talk about the show and about GCT. You might just want to buy your tickets now. Advance sales are stronger than ever, and you don’t want to miss out!

Seven in my family attended the Sunday matinee of "Annie." In a word, EXCELLENT!! Great sets, superbly directed cast performances, great singing and choreography, PLUS a 19-pc orchestra as good as the Boston Pops. The entire production was enhanced by the enthusiasm of all involved. I encourage everyone to attend. Young and old in our audience were enchanted by this first-class program.

Thanks for the wonderful comments Linda. I'm glad to be in these shows. It brings an escape for the community during these hard times. Laughter is the best medicine.

If you have not yet attended this year's production of Annie by GCT, you can do so this weekend. My husband and I went yesterday. It is such a great show. I sit in awe of the different parts played by the actors. The little gal that plays Annie has a powerful voice. All in the production do a great job.

I want to commend the cast. The 2PM show on Sunday they did under some conditions that did not seem to bother them one bit (AC not working at the HS through the 1st half).

Please plan to go this weekend.

It is a privilege to be a part of such a wonderful group of talented people in GCT. Putting Annie together this summer has been such fun! Come see how much fun we have been having by watching the show the next two weekends!

We are excited that GCT is becoming a venue for talented artist all over the KC metro area. We are also very excited that when folks from outside of the Gardner area come to see one of our shows they are not only supporting GCT but Gardner as well, eating in our restaurants and spending money in our community. I like to think of GCT as the âLittle Engine that Could!â A new feature of our production will be the GCT Market Place.

The Market Place will be a venue to sell mementoes of this and prior shows from the past 5 years and the proceeds will go to the GCT Scholarship fund to help High School graduates. Much thanks goes to Mrs. Robin McGuire for heading up the âMarket Placeâ!

If Theatre in the Park can be the largest outdoor community theatre in the nation, why couldnât GCT be the best little community theatre in the nation! We dream big, but we work hard and we hold a candle second to none! Annie is going to be a great show! ~Sandy Miller
