BNSF Railway’s Grade Crossing Safety team and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office recognized two Johnson County women for saving a man’s life last week when his car became stuck on railroad tracks at a closed crossing in Olathe.
The women pulled the man from the car as a train approached.
The good Samaritans, Kachalle Young and Amber Kopaczewski of Spring Hill, were recognized and presented with gifts during a presentation at BNSF’s Technical Training Center at Johnson County Community College.
Kopaczewski is a JCCC student.
After the presentation, the women were allowed to operate a locomotive simulator, used to train locomotive engineers, for a rare view of the tracks from an engineer’s perspective.
The presentation was in the ITC Building of the Technical Training Center 12345 College Blvd, Overland Park.
The center also is known as the National Academy of Railroad Sciences. The recognition event included members of BNSF’s Police team and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, who responded to the emergency.
