kade Kade Meyer, 7, of Gardner, Kansas (submitted photo)
Kade M Meyer, a second grader at Madison Elementary School, was hit by a car while crossing Madison Road at the end of the school day. EMT's were called to the scene at approximately 3:30 pm. He was transported to Olathe Medical, but later died of his injuries.

Kade is the son of Mark and Stormy Meyer of Gardner. Mark is Assistant Principal at GEHS.

Other news sources have reported that Kade was hit in the Madison Elementary parking lot. Witnesses, however, have informed us that Kade was walking east on Madison when he crossed toward the high school. He walked between two parked cars. Kade was not at a marked crosswalk.

Our prayers are with Kade's family and friends at this sad time.

UPDATED: Friday, September 3, 2010, 1:20 p.m.

Kade's photo is now posted on the site. Additionally, the following comments have been received:

USD 231 Superintendent Bill Gilhaus said, “Words can not describe the sadness our district and the community of Gardner is experiencing today. Our community is a strong and caring one and we will help and support each other through this very difficult time.”

The Principal of Madison Elementary, Christi Whitter said, “Kade was a bright and happy boy, and such a joy to be around. The sadness felt today at Madison and in the community of Gardner is beyond words.”

Kade's Teacher, Mrs. Brendon McIntire said, "“Kade was a delight to have in class. He was a typical 7 year-old boy who had lots of friends, enjoyed school, and loved life and everything in it. He was simply a wonderful little boy."

Dear Meyer Family, Scott and I are lifting you all in prayer as you live through this terrible tragedy. It is never easy to lose a child, no matter the circumstances, but your loss seems intensified when that life is taken at such a young age. We pray God will surround you with His loving arms and give you comfort in the days to come. Lean on Him and He will give you strength. Love in Christ, Scott and Donna Taylor

My daughter is a young Math teacher at your school, Mark. She looks forward to many more years working with you and the students at GEHS. She called me Thursday to tell me of the tragic accident. I felt as though I had been punched in the gut. Every parent's worst nightmare has come true for you. My heart breaks. Please believe that God will take care of Kade and you will see him again in the end. Sometimes it is just impossible to understand His plan. I will continue to pray for you and your family.

Jamie & Janet Lavin wrote on 9/4/2010 8:08 am

I think only God could complete a sentence of hope for the parents & extended families, as my words will fall undeniably short. Adjunct to the craziness of life & living, a sadness such as this turns the key to "off" and you toss the mail aside. It stops the dog's bark, and renders dinner obsolete. It turns "off" the TV; there is no good news tonight. This pall chases away any thought of "cozy" and in this arid summer, a cold wind came & blew through the trees. The Willows, Oaks & Spruces all moan at the loss. Oh, for use of a stopwatch on sadness; for the will of a pillow made just for grief, or for the desire of a bridge under Madison street, for all to cross, or just one to cross, safely. I bleakly offer no solution, only an outcry of raw emotion.
I think, only God can bring some clairity. On earth, there is little solace.

"Give this day our daily bread..." I dare to wish, respectfully, to include "and keep our little children safe".

Allison Faraldi wrote on 9/4/2010 6:49 am

Stormy our deepest sympathies to you, Mark and Kennedy. There are no words, our hearts are breaking for you. We will just keep praying for you. The Faraldi family - Allison, Joe, Joey, Nicklas and Sofia.

Our family's prayers, thoughts and support are with the Meyer family. Words cannot express the hurt and pain that parents feel when a child is very ill. Words in this time now are seemingly insufficient, hard to express and difficult. Lift up your hearts in prayer for the Meyer family. The Kirgan family.
