The 7th grade JV Volleyball team took to the court Tuesday against the Eudora Cardinals. The team came out strong lead by Paige Sheehan as she served up 6 unanswered serves. The Mustangs dominated the serving arena with a combination of efforts by Abbie Livella, Zaycee Zeck, Hanna Blakey and Paige Sheehan. Additonally Darsha Starnes stepped up with a kill and a setting assist. The girls closed out the first match in two games 25-14 and 25-15. The team immediately jumped back into action in match two. Once again the strong serving efforts of the team lead them to a win. Jaycee Zeck and Abbie Livella each served 10, 6 of them being aces. Cassie Phelps also contributed 7 good serves, 5 of those aces. The team was lead in playable passes by Darsha Starnes, Abbie Livella and Cassie Phelps. The Mustang's combined efforts lead the victory, 25-17 and 25-17. Coach Rousselo is very impressed with the growth of the young team and is looking forward to a continued season of growth.
7th Grade Varsity Results
The 7th grade varsity squad capitalized on momentum from last week and put away two more wins Tuesday night against Eudora in Eudora. Serving 76% as a team, the Mustangs had a combined 37 aces. In the first match, six of those belonged to Adrienne Harrelson. The girls were able to set the ball up several times throughout the night. Abbie Buie contributed 8 playable serve receives to that effort. During the second match, Taylor Stewart was on fire at the net, slamming down 5 kills. Angeliece Tucker also had a kill and four aces. The final scores of the matches were 25-20, 25-18 in the first match and 25-20, 25-15 in the second match.
8th JV Volleyball Results
The 8th grade JV volleyball team played two hard-fought matches last night against Eudora. The Mustangs lost the first match in three close games with scores of 25-17, 14-25, and 24-25. After the loss, the Lady Stangs came back strong and won the second match in two games with scores of 25-18 and 25-11. The team did an excellent job of serving, communicating, and passing in that second match. Highlights of the night included seven serving aces by Katy Chambers and six serving aces by Brittany Cowel. Madison McClure and Chase Akin also led the team with playable passes and great defensive skills. Coach Prignitz thinks the team made wonderful improvements and had a great first win!
8th Varsity Volleyball at WMS 9-7-10
The Mustangs came out determined to go 4-0, winning the first set of matches vs. Eudora with scores of 25-5, 25-13. The girls played outstanding as a team and finished both sets with huge focus. Macey Conrad led with 12 serves-6 of them being aces. Followed by Haley Kheen with 10 serves and 3 aces, and Brooike Carlilse with 10 serves and 4 aces. Chelby Abney led at the net with 3 kills. Allison Koelzer set well with 2 assists.
vs. Lawrence Central Won 25-7, 25-20
The Mustangs came out confident and in control. These girls really support each other and that will take them far. Every person on the bench and court stuck together to pull off 2 more wins. Bethany Shultz had an Amazing serving night. She had 19 serves and 9 aces!! Allison Koelzer had 8 serves with 3 aces, followed by Mackenzie Henneous with 7 serves and 2 aces. Sydney Burgoon passed well and had a kill from the back row. Carly Graceffa was aggressive at the net. The girls are now 4-0 and Coach Hilton couldn't be more proud of how well they are playing as a team. GO MUSTANGS!!!
