OLATHE, KAN, -- The inauguration of the fifth president of MidAmerica Nazarene University will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oc. 26, in the sanctuary at College Church of the Nazarene. The public is invited to attend.
Dr. David J. Spittal, EdD, was elected to the position on January 16, 2012 and has served in this position since Feb. 1.
The ceremony will include MNU faculty and dignitaries in academic regalia. State, county and city representatives as well as presidents and representatives of local and regional universities will be in attendance.
Dr. Spittal’s previous post was president of Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina, where he served for 17 years. Spittal has been on the board of directors for the Wesleyan Investment Foundation and on the General Board of the Wesleyan Church International. He has served in a volunteer capacity as the executive committee vice president for the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, commissioner of the South Carolina Tuition Grants Commission, and as co-chair of the Pickens County South Carolina Vision 2025 Project.
Dr. Spittal holds an EdD in educational administration, an MS in music education, and a BS in instrumental/vocal music and art education from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
The inauguration coincides with MNU’s Homecoming weekend, allowing alumni to experience the event with students, faculty and the Olathe community.
MidAmerica Nazarene University, founded in 1966, is a private, Christian, liberal arts university offering 40 undergraduate majors and three adult degree completion programs, as well as five professional graduate degrees in business, education, nursing, and counseling, and postgraduate certificates. Online offerings include classes in education, nursing and management.
