As the leader of the USD 231 Instrumental Music Department and Gardner Edgerton High School's Band Director for 33 years, Janet Wittkopf has been selected as the 2012 Honoree for the Gardner Edgerton High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Janet will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame under the Special Award classification. This classification is "given to a person, group, or business that has been a devoted supporter of the athletic program at Gardner Edgerton High School."
"Her leadership and dedication to the band and the athletic programs at GEHS are numerous. The number of pep assemblies, pep band performances, and marching performances at the high school are certainly hard to count over her distinguished career," said GEHS Athletic Director Kent Glaser. "Janet was a strong leader for Gardner Edgerton Instrumental Music and an exceptional supporter of all the activities and athletics at Gardner Edgerton High School as the band instructor."
A brief recognition ceremony will take place during half time at the Oct 26, home football game. The formal Hall of Fame Induction will take place at 3 p.m., on Sunday, October 28, in the Gardner Edgerton High School Auditorium. The public is invited to attend both celebrations to honor Janet Wittkopf for this well-deserved recognition.
