Update: Second Suspect Arrested for Memorial Day Shooting in Douglas County

Update: After further investigation by Douglas County Sheriff’s Detectives, a second suspect was identified in the Memorial Day shooting on 59 Highway south of Lawrence. Twenty year old Eudora resident Brittany Nicole Smith was taken into custody and booked in the Douglas County Correctional Facility.

She is charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Murder in the First Degree. With this arrest the charges against Edward J. Parker have been changed to Attempted Murder in the First Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Murder in the First Degree. They are both being held in jail with no bond set as of yet. Their first appearance in court may be as early as tomorrow afternoon.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Edward Joseph (E.J.) Parker last night for the Memorial Day shooting of Skylar L. Workman on 59 Highway south of Lawrence.

After intensive investigation detectives developed Lawrence resident E.J. Parker as a suspect. They interviewed Parker yesterday at the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center. At the conclusion of the interview detectives arrested him and booked him in the Douglas County Correctional Facility on a charge of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree.

The investigation into the shooting continues as Workman recuperates in an area hospital.
