Central Fiber readies new manufacturing facility in Wellsville, KS

Leading provider of industrial cellulose fiber products prepares milestone accomplishment

WELLSVILLE, KS (March 31, 2016) – What is likely the largest industrial project in Wellsville in decades is nearing completion. Central Fiber, a long-standing manufacturer of high quality industrial cellulose fiber products made from recycled paper, is about to open a newly constructed state of the art manufacturing facility to replace one lost to fire in January, 2015.

“This facility will be the new benchmark for the industry, with product range, productivity, and throughput matching or exceeding our competitors,” said Darren Traub, President and CEO of Central Fiber. He indicated that the facility will be the most modern and integrated facility for these types of products in the world – of which Central Fiber is very proud.

The building is a 20,000 square foot high bay space. “The production equipment is state of the art, and every aspect of the design has been optimized using modern technology” said Traub. “Not only is the equipment cutting edge, the control system uses the latest digital technology,” added Traub.

Traub estimates that the new facility will operate at capacities almost twice those of the existing Wellsville facility, with tighter controls and consistencies resulting in improved quality – mostly due to automation. The plant is designed to run the complete line of Central Fiber’s industrial fiber products, and also includes capabilities for custom blending and contract packaging.

“Safety is paramount and an integral part of Central Fiber’s culture. The new facility incorporates modern fire detection systems, explosion protection and suppression systems,” said Traub.

Central Fiber was determined to utilize local KS businesses for the majority of the site work. Loyd Builders (Ottawa, KS) was the General Contractor and was supported by a host of local companies including Mid America Consultants (Overland Park, KS), Electrical Enterprises Inc. (Ottawa, KS) and Industrial Sheet Metal (Kansas City, MO).

The plant will start pilot production in April and is expected to be in full production mid-May of 2016.
