First Presbyterian Church of Gardner will celebrate our 150th anniversary next week. The community is invited to several free events. On Friday, August 12, at 6 p.m. we will share a potluck, followed by a hymn sing and story sharing in the sanctuary. On Saturday, August 13, at 6 p.m. join us for free ice cream, an inflatable bounce house and obstacle course, old fashioned games on the lawn and beginning at 7 p.m. square dancing. On Sunday, August 14, we will complete the weekend of celebration with worship at 9 a.m. Homecoming guests will share messages and our own chancel choir under the direction of Todd Burd, will provide special music. After worship, we will share another potluck brunch. Everyone is welcome. Pastor Kimby Young says, “We at First Presbyterian Church are proud of our heritage as the first church officially established in Gardner in 1866. We are pleased to continue serving God here in the heart of Gardner as we look forward to the next 150 years.” At the corner of Elm and Shawnee, First Presbyterian Church is easy to find at 138 E. Shawnee right across from City Hall and the library near Johnson County Fairgrounds, the Gardner Aquatic Center and Cornerstone Park.
