The Festival on the Trails weekend brings with it another great community event. GERP members will again be in front of the Gardner Price Chopper collecting food for the local pantries. Collection starts on Thursday, June 6th at 4:00pm and will extend through all day Friday, June 7th and Saturday, June 8th.
Ementi Coary, Chairman of GERP says, “Everything collected goes to the Gardner-Edgerton Multi-Service Center and the Edgerton Food Panty helping local people in our communities. We’ve set an aggressive goal this year of collecting 4,000 pounds of food this year. We missed this number last year by on 68 pounds, so I know that this community can get it done.”
Come by Price Chopper and pick a few non-perishable items. We’ll have the grocery bags available with a list attached of the items currently needed. No glass containers please.
Summer is a tough time for pantries. Food supplies are low and, with the kids being out of school, the demand is high for nutritious food items. Please don’t forget that certain personal hygiene items are always in demand and not usually available in the pantries. Since this event was started five years ago this organization has collected over 10,000 lbs. of non-perishable food items for our local pantries. Let’s add another two tons to that total.
The Food Drive is just one of the ways GERP gives back to our communities. Help them help those in need.
