I-35 Pavement Reconstruction Project – Phase Two Work
NEW CLOSURE DATES: The following northbound and southbound I-35 lane/ramp closures will take place this week, March 21-26, weather permitting, as crews continue setting traffic control, concrete barrier, and temporary pavement marking installation for the upcoming traffic shift for both northbound and southbound I-35 (1See news release below for detailed project information). This past weekend’s work was postponed due to the cold wet weather and has now been rescheduled for this week.

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURES: Southbound I-35 RIGHT LANE (two left lanes open) from 119th Street to 151st Street CLOSED on Tuesday, March 22 from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m., weather permitting. Then, southbound I-35 TWO LEFT LANES (one right lane open) from 119th Street to 151st Street CLOSED on Tuesday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.
DETOUR ADDITION! 24/7 LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURE: Santa Fe Street/135th Street to southbound I-35 entrance ramp will be FULLY CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, weather permitting, through late September 2016. A marked detour will be provided. See detour map above. Santa Fe Street/135th Street traffic will detour via southbound Mur-Len Road to westbound 151st Street or via northbound Ridgeview Road to eastbound 119th Street to access southbound I-35.

24/7 TRAFFIC SHIFT: All northbound I-35 traffic will be shifted onto the southbound I-35 lanes beginning on Saturday, March 26, weather permitting, through late September 2016. Both northbound and southbound I-35 will be reduced to two lanes each direction. SPECIAL NOTE: If the rain forecasted for Saturday, March 26 occurs, then this weekend day’s work may be cancelled and rescheduled. We will send out an update IF Saturday’s work is cancelled.
NEW RAMP CLOSURE ADDITIONS!24/7 LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURES: Old U.S. 56 to northbound I-35 entrance ramp and the northbound I-35 to Santa Fe Street/135th Street exit ramp will be FULLY CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, on Saturday, March 26, weather permitting, through late September 2016. A marked detour will be provided. See detour map above. Old U.S. 56 traffic will detour either northbound K-7 to eastbound K-10 or southbound on K-7 to 151st Street to access northbound I-35. Northbound I-35 traffic will detour via eastbound 119th Street to southbound Strang Line Road or via eastbound 151st Street to northbound Mur-Len Road to access Santa Fe Street/135th Street.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.
