Evelynn “Honey” Merilatt Boal, 95, of Spring Hill, KS went to be with her Lord Jesus July 13, 2018. Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Countryside Church, 14150 W. 175th St, Overland Park, KS 66221. Visitation 1:00 pm before the service. Evelynn was born July 17, 1922 in Wyandotte Co., KS to Daniel J. and Grace (Puckett) Merilatt. She graduated from Wyandotte High School. Evelynn married George M. Boal on January 6, 1946 in Kansas City, KS. She was a records manager for the FAA for 21 years before her retirement in 1978. With the help and encouragement of her high school English teacher, Evelynn discovered her love of poetry. She honed her craft through writing seminars and conferences including the Christian Writers’ Conference at the American Baptist Assembly in Green Lake, WI (now the Green Lake Conference Center). Evelynn was a published poet; her poems were in Ideals Magazine and many poetry journals. She was an accomplished organist and pianist and loved music, poetry and cats. Evelynn was a member of PEN Women of Kansas. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Evelynn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 1996 and siblings: Wayne, Kirk, Rex, Dean and Lois. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Evelynn’s first poem that she wrote when she was eight years old:
“Cheer up, cheer up,”
called a robin one day.
“I just found a cherry tree
over the way.
So come all you birdies,
come eat your fill.
The cherry tree is waiting
just over the hill.”
