James M. “Jim” Wiseman, 71, passed away April 20, 2016, at his home. Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Monday, April 25, 2016 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS 913-856-7111. Burial will follow at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 – 5:00 pm Sunday, April 24, 2016 also at the funeral home. A life-long area resident, Jim was born September 2, 1944 in Ottawa, KS to Dorothy Louise (Birckhead) and George William Maxine “Max” Wiseman. His first eight years of school were at Rock Creek Schoolhouse of Wellsville, which was a one-room schoolhouse. He was a 1962 graduate of Wellsville High School. Jim married Betty J. Klamm on June 20, 1965 in Gardner. In the 1970’s he owned Jim’s Standard Service, in the 1980’s he owned Wiseman Feed & Seed and he owned Wiseman Lawn Equipment from 1988 to 2008 when he retired. Jim was a member of the “Docey Dandies” square dance club, he was also an avid pilot of remote control airplanes and founder of R.C. Barnstormers; and he served as a Captain for Gardner’s Rural Volunteer Fire Dept. Jim was very friendly, and never met a stranger. He spent lots of time telling jokes. His hobbies included gardening and card playing. Jim and Betty enjoyed many cruise vacations with friends and family, as well as touring the U.S. extensively on their Honda Goldwing Motorcycles. He will be dearly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by his wife Betty, of the home; son Rodney and wife Sandra Wiseman of Gardner; brothers Gary and Frank Wiseman of Wellsville and Fred Wiseman of Williamsburg, KS; step-granddaughter Angela Clardy of KCMO; and step-great grandchildren Eris and Edric.
