Johnnie Ray Neal, 64, of Edgerton, KS passed away October 4, 2016 at the KU Medical Center surrounded by his family. Funeral Service will be 9:30 am Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S Center, Gardner, KS 66030 913-856-7111. Burial with Military Honors following at Edgerton Cemetery, Edgerton, KS. Visitation will be 6 – 8:00 pm Friday, October 7, 2016 also at the funeral home. Johnnie was born July 21, 1952 in Yakima, WA to Samuel Ray and Thelma Pauline (Kytle) Neal. He grew up in Olathe and graduated from Olathe High School in 1970. Johnnie then joined the United States Air Force and was in the Air National Guard. He married Joetta Lynn Schafer Nelson on August 10, 1974 in Denver, CO. They moved to Edgerton in 1978. Johnnie worked as a Diesel Mechanic for Sysco Foods in Olathe for 19 years, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and camping. Johnnie was a barbeque specialist and a craftsman. Above all, his family was most important to him. He will be missed by family and friends.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter. He is survived by his wife of the home; children: Karen A. and Michael Crews of Gardner, Cindy J and Tyler Reimer of Edgerton and Steven Ray and Stefanie Neal of Dubuque, IA; siblings: Raymond Neal of Lawrence, KS Bobbie Neal of Versailles, MO, Charlie Ann Clay of Sidney, AR, Thelma Pirtle of Platte City, MO, David Neal of Olathe and Mary Bailey of Evening Shade, AR; five grandchildren: Chelsea, Crystal, Ashlea, Mathieu and Adelyn; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
