Michael Joseph Speers, 62, retired Warrant Officer 4, U.S. Army, of Gardner, KS passed away Dec. 2, 2018 at Olathe Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. Celebration of Life will be 11:00am Mon., Dec. 10, 2018 at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 306 E Madison Street, Gardner, KS 66030. Visitation will be 10:00am before the service, also at the church. Inurnment with Military Honors will be at a later date in Coal Bank Springs Cemetery, Marion, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Cancer Research. Michael was born Aug. 25, 1956 in Marion, IL to Joe and Helen (Keister) Speers. He graduated from Marion High School and attended 2 years at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Michael served in the United States Army, retiring after 20 years in 2001 and began working at the United States Postal Office in Kansas City, KS. He was a member of the Postal Union and enjoyed dancing with the Gardner Docey Dandies. Michael was a big car enthusiast and sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Royals play. He loved camping with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. His favorite band was “Chicago.” He will be missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Michael is survived by his children: Samuel Michael (Jessica) Speers of Spring Hill, KS, Thomas Scott Speers and Eric Joseph Speers ( Alison Marie) all of Overland Park, KS; siblings: Peggy Jo Bailey and Pamela Louise Carter both of Marion, IL, Wade William Speers ( Tamorah Lynn) of Bixby, OK; two grandchildren: Tyler and Levi.
