Patricia was born June 26, 1923 in Olathe, KS to Floyd Eugene, Sr. and Catherine Elizabeth (Blackford) Martin. She graduated from Olathe High School and then worked toward a Bachelor of Science. In high school, she received training as a court stenographer. Pat trained as a nurse during WWII, training she would reference throughout her life. After the war ended, she moved to Virginia, with her son, to help take care of her niece who had special needs. Pat was a professional dancer/analyst and taught dance lessons through Arthur Murray Ballroom Dance Studios; she loved teaching dance and it was a role she continued into retirement. She eventually moved to Washington DC where she did clerical work at the Pentagon. While there, it became apparent that Pat had a memory for information and therefore was sent to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida to work for a testing program. In 1960, she moved back to Olathe and purchased Olathe Collections Inc. which she owned until 1972. Pat’s only son died in Vietnam in 1969. She was enormously proud of him and spoke of “Butch” often. After retirement, Pat remained active in numerous other charitable groups and social organizations. Patricia utilized her nursing training as a caregiver for her husband, Calvin, in his later years. Often known by those around her as “Grandma” Pat, she had a heart for young children. From 2001-2008, she provided in-home childcare to two young children who still consider her family. She maintained a presence in their lives until the end and her influence in their lives was greatly appreciated by their mother. Patricia was a volunteer in the Olathe School District at Fairview and Havencroft Elementary Schools. She was always so pleased to see the children’s eyes light up when they understood a new concept. Her love for children was also evident as a Sunday school teacher in the 3-4 year old classroom and volunteer in the Awana program at Community Bible Church, where she was member for over 30 years. Pat was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Olathe Chapter, where she served in many roles throughout the years. She was a life-long gardener – her orchard can still be seen outside the home she shared for so many years with her husband Cal. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; son, Cpt. Ralph O. Bray, Jr in 1969; husband, Calvin in 2000; brother, Floyd E. Martin, Jr. and sister, Betty Martin Russell, more recently. She is survived by her brothers: Jay D. Anderson of Independence, MO, Ray E. Anderson of Marion, NC, Jerry L. Anderson and Jim Martin; four grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
