She was born June 5th, 1935 at a farm in Westphalia, KS, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Hagemann) Hellmer. She graduated from Westphalia High School as the valedictorian with the class of 1953. She worked as a bank teller in Westphalia for six years prior to marriage. Ronnie was united in marriage to William (Bill) Benne on June 27th, 1960 at Westphalia. This union was blessed with three sons. After marriage she spent the majority of her life with her husband in the Johnson County, KS area. She was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish, Gardner, KS, Daughters of Isabella, Johnson County Fair Association, Bookmark’s Book Club and many other organizations during her lifetime. She was an avid reader, and even as Alzheimer’s began to steal her mind and she could no longer read books, she continued participating in book club, patiently listening until the discussion mentioned sons or Catholics or Germans. At the mention of those topics she would perk up and let everyone know she was there and listening. In addition to being a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Ronnie was a loyal friend to many who remember her for her sweet and quiet ways with a gentle laugh that brightened the room. Her friendly smile and generous nature were often on display at many 4-H events and Johnson County Fair activities. She loved gatherings especially in her home where friends and family were always welcomed celebrating holidays, birthdays, graduations, cook-outs and wiener roasts. Another favorite pastime was traveling with friends and family and the annual Benne reunions at Grand Lake, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Agnes Hellmer; three brothers: Joseph, Francis and Leonard Hellmer; sister in-law, Jodi Hellmer and brother-in-law, Bob Coady. Ronnie is survived by her husband Bill of the home; sons: Dr. Paul (Christine) of Manhattan, KS, Duane of Lenexa, KS, Mark (Kathy) of Bucyrus, KS; eight grandchildren: Brayson (Katy) Benne, Cale Benne, Andrew Benne, Gage (Rachel) Benne, Jacob Benne, Hagan Benne, Eileen Benne, Megan Benne; two great-grandchildren: Liam and Jane Benne; three brothers: John Hellmer of Lodi, CA, Ernest (Doris) Hellmer of Omaha, NE, Jerome (Susan) Hellmer of Salina, KS; sister-in-laws: Bea Hellmer of Aurora, CO and Doris Coady of Des Moines, IA and many nieces and nephews.
