Calling – it’s a topic that we talk with people about every day.
It’s also a topic that gains skepticism in some circles. Here’s some typical, skeptical comments:
‘I don’t know my calling.’
‘I don’t feel excited about anything.’
‘I’m just trying to put food on the table for my family…I don’t have the luxury to think about what my true calling may be.’
‘I don’t have time to think about what my calling is.’
We get bogged down in the details of life. Kids to take to school. Dinner to fix. In-laws to host. Life to live.
I think the main reason we can be clueless about our calling is this: We just don’t take time to stop and think about it.
Also – we make it more complicated than it needs to be. Here’s some questions to consider when thinking about your calling. These can offer clues…hints at what your true calling may be:
What are you compelled to do? You just have to do it.
When you go to Barnes and Noble (or any good bookstore), what books and magazines are you drawn to?
What activities have you done in the past…when you do it…you just completely lose track of time…you get completely consumed in it?
What stirs your heart? What ‘awakens’ you inside?
Often, we are too busy to stop and answer questions like these…or we may be afraid to.
But…if you take the time to stop and consider questions like these…you can be well on the way to discovering your true calling.
We’d love to help you discover your calling. We offer Career Coaching to people from all over the world. Will you be the next one to discover your calling?
