'Honoring Our Heroes' at the 2010 Warbird Open House

This is your last chance to see Annie as performed by our very own Gardner Community Theatre. Performances are at GEHS at 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings, 2:00 pm on Sunday. Tickets are $8 at the door, or you may still be able to nab an advance ticket for $7 from a cast member or at the Gardner Price Chopper.

I've spoken with quite a few folks who attended one of last week's shows, and the reviews have been uniformly ecstatic! No polite, "Our little community theater does a nice job", but, "Wow! It was great! We're going to see it again!"

The 2010 Warbird Open House 'Honoring Our Heroes' is this weekend at the CAF hangar at New Century AirCenter, which is located at 159th & Old Hwy 56. Activities are scheduled from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sunday. And admission is free!

The Warbird Open House is hosted by the KC Ghost Squadron, aka the Heart of America Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. The Ghost Squadron site proudly states their vision - 'Honoring American Military Aviation through Flight, Exhibition, and Remembrance'. Through the weekend's activities, you can share in that vision. Planned activities for this family event include:

•Vintage military aircraft will be on display and will give flying demonstrations
•Displays of vintage military vehicles by the Military Vehicle Preservation Association
•Color Guard - Young Marines from Hickman Mills High School
•Displays of period vehicles and motorcycles
•WWII re-enactor encampment
•Meet and speak with WWII, Korea, and Vietnam veterans
•Live military and patriotic music
•Children’s activities
•Airplane rides for donations
•Purchase souvenirs and memorabilia at our PX
•Food for purchase, provided by Celebrity’s Cafe

This is also the Saturday that the Johnson County Environmental Department is attempting to set a Guinness World Record for electronics recycling. So check the accepted materials list, then start the hunt! The collection is from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Sunset Drive Office parking lot, 11811 S Sunset Drive, Olathe.
