Firefighters rescued a driver from flood waters Tuesday as a result of the torrential thunderstorms.
The driver turned east on 199th Street from Highway 56 and within moments drove into 3 feet of water. The car went off the roadway and was submerged. The driver climbed onto his roof and used his cell phone to call for help .
The driver was on his roof when rescue personnel arrived at the scene. They were able to escort him to high ground.
Many other area roads were temporarily under water during the storm. The flood waters rose quickly, and most subsided quickly when the rain eased. Fire rescue warns drivers not to risk driving through flooded roadways. Find an alternative route or wait for the water to subside.
