It's an Ice Cream Social!
Posted on Aug. 10th, 2010
In my mind, the new school year arrives with a change of season. Shorts and flip-flops make way for falling leaves and football. You pick a crisp apple for the teacher from the tree in your yard. Yes, it sits right next to the white picket fence. The fence, the apple, and your child are all perfect.
Reality check! The kids just started school during the hottest week of the year! It's your lawn that 'crisp'. Lines of parental vehicles fall into formation all over town. All seems oddly quiet - for a while. Then the students return home, open their backpacks and let fly the blizzard of welcome-back-to-school papers!
Oh, yeah, I remember now.
Just hang on until Sunday afternoon! The Edgerton United Methodist Church is hosting a real old-fashioned ice cream social.
Gather in that area just west of the Edgerton Library at 7:00 pm. It's a nice shady spot, and it will have cooled down a bit. You'll find ice cream, lots of toppings, cookies, brownies, and fun! It'll remind you of simpler days, and the kids will be in heaven. When they have a nice sugar coating, you can take them home, hose them off and put them to bed.
It's a good way to start the first full week of school!
