This weekend the Trailblazer wrestlers left it all on the mat at the State Tournament. As a coach, that’s all you can ask for.
We knew going into the State Tournament that the top ten teams would only be separatedby a few points. The team finished ninth overall making it five straight years the Blazers have finished in the top ten at State. However, to just look at the team’s ninth place finish at the State Tournament, is not a good explanation of just how well these guys competed.
Each of the top three teams had a total of seven state placers. The Blazers had four placers
And three others that just missed placing by coming up a little bit short in a close match
in the round to decide if they’d place or not.
Micah Flora-Swick also just missed making it to the championship finals. In his semi-finals
match, it took four overtime periods to decide who would compete in the state finals. His opponent,
Vance Oliver from Winfield, scored an escape with about 10 seconds left in the final overtime for the victory.
Kyle Pacheco, as always, showed a lot of aggression and explosiveness each time he stepped on the mat en route to his fifth place finish. Todd Curtis and TJ Stokes both wrestled smart and composed on their way to their state places as well.
We are proud of the way the whole team battled all week-end long. It was an exciting season!
