The Gardner-Edgerton High School football team will play on television in October.

The No.1 state ranked 5A Class Blazers will face St. Thomas Aquinas at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Gardner Edgerton District Activities Complex. That game will air on ESPNU.

The two teams have met five times on the gridiron, with Aquinas having a 3-2 lead in that series. The Blazers, however, beat Aquinas last year in their almost perfect run to the 2009 Class 5A State Championship game.

The Blazers are favored to win this year's match up and to return to the state championship.

“The opportunity for our players to garner national exposure for their hard work and talent is tremendously exciting,” said Dr. Gilhaus, Gardner-Edgerton School District superintendent, in a written statement. “We’re looking forward to hosting ESPN to Gardner Edgerton School District and anticipate an exciting and memorable event for our students, staff, and community.”

The Trailblazers first game of the season is against Blue Valley West at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 at the District Activities Complex.

Also, to clear up any confusion, the game will be held at Gardner-Edgerton High School. The game was initially scheduled to take place at Aquinas but Aquinas and GE agreed to change locations in order to accomodate size.

This is fantastic! Can't wait to watch it on the "U" and watch the Blazers dominate their rivals. Good luck on your upcoming season.
