On Monday, April 18, GEHS golfers Ben Hunsperger and Trystan Tovkach made the trip over to Loch Lloyd Country Club for the 2nd round of the EKL golf season. Ben started off a little slow but picked up the speed of the greens mid round. While he carded a 95, Ben was happy with the way he struck the ball. With a few more competitive rounds under his belt, he will feel more comfortable in putting a complete round together. Trystan started his round off strong and had a great front 9 shooting 2 over for a 38 but hit a few speed bumps on the back. He finished strong shooting a 39 on the back to card a 77 which put him just out of contention for a medal. He was 5 shots off of first place.
Coach Lutz was extremely proud of both players as they had to play through a continuous drizzle/sprinkle and a torrential down pour for about 2-3 holes. Course conditions were great as expected and some low scores were shot.
Current EKL standings through 2 legs, Trystan is 5 shots out of the lead. The 3rd leg will be played out at Prairie Highlands on May 9th hosted by Gardner.
Next up for varsity will be this Thursday at Sycamore Ridge in Spring Hill.
On the JV side, 6 golfers traveled to Garnett for a 9 hole tournament.
Trevor Hilliker shot a 45, tied for 1st but lost in a score card playoff.
Guy Talcott shot a 48, tied for 5th but lost in a score card playoff.
Coby Tyson and Blake Nichols both shot a 52 to tie for 10th but lost in a score card playoff.
As a team the Blazers won 1st place with a total of 11 teams competing. Victory over 10 other teams was a great accomplishment for a young blazer golf team. This maybe the JV’s first team title at a golf tournament in recent memory.
Our team total was a 197.
Others that competed were:
Zach Salazar – 55
Garrett Glover – 57
The JV golfers have a 2 week break before they compete again at Osawatomie on May 4th and Lady/Sykes Overland Park Golf Course on the same day.
