Varsity softball opened at home against St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday.  It was a night we were not sure we were going to get in based off the forecast, but it turned out to be a beautiful evening for some great softball!!   In our first at bat for the season, the Blazers made a statement batting through the lineup, scoring 5 runs.   The Blazers were able to hold STA to six runs thru 7 innings.    Our Blazers would put seven more runs up as the game went on!  Four of the runs being home runs, one from Sydney Anderson (1-3) in the second inning and three of them coming on back to back bombs in the bottom of the 6th, by Abby Cox (1-1, reached base 4-4), Ashlyn Anderson (1-3) and Malibu McIntire (2-3)!   The final score was 12-6 for a Blazer victory!!

The second game got off to a slow start for the Blazers, as STA came out in the first inning and scored two runs.  STA scored another run in the fourth. Still with runners in position to score, STA hit a shot to left field and Kennedy Meyer made an amazing catch for the third out.  The Blazers took this momentum to the plate and our bats lit up!   Sydney Deitz (1-1, reached base 3-3) got on with a walk and Kennedy Meyer hit a double to start the rally!  The Blazers scored 4 runs to take the lead 4-3.   Abby Cox and the defense was able to shut STA down the rest of the game.  The final score was 5-3 for the sweep against STA!!!!!!!!    Abby Cox starts her season 2-0 from the mound as she pitched to Cassidy Greer both games.  Abby worked hard ending the night with 15 strikeouts!

The JV softball team kicked off their season on Thursday night with a doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas. The girls have been working really hard to get prepared for the season and started the season with a doubleheader sweep of the Saints 16-1 and 21-6. In game one, Brittney Davidson pitched an amazing game. She gave up a homerun to the 2nd batter of the game but she would limit the Saint to only 3 hits after that. We had our offense working from the opening pitch scoring 7 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. In game 2, the pitching duties were shared by Brittney and Aubrey Hamilton. They combined to give up only 2 earned runs of the 6 that the Saints managed to score. Again after allowing the Saints to score 3 runs in the first inning to take an early lead the girls came out swinging on offense and scored 13 first inning runs to reclaim the lead for good. The offense was clicking all night with every player who made a plate appearance collecting at least 1 hit. Some of the hitting highlights were Ivy Brewer 5-5 with 5 RBIs, Jaden Sprague 4-5 with 4 RBIs, Nikayla Kussatz, Jayme Morris and Carly Gragg collected 4 RBIs and Mykah Andregg collected 3 RBIs. There were many outstanding performers at the plate last night but their night were made possible by Gabby Schultz who was on base 6 of her 8 plate appearance, Ashlyn Burrus who was on base 6 out of her 6 plate appearances and Kylie Adden who created havoc when she was on.  Overall it was a great night to be a Blazer!

Thank You to all who came out and supported the girls this week!  It is great to get these 4 HOME wins under our belt as we hit the road for a 14 game road streak!!!    We will be back home in May!! Varsity and JV will play Blue Valley Southwest (Tuesday) and Blue Valley West (Thursday) next week!   C Team will have their first games next Wednesday at Blue Valley!
