NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to Race at Pocono Preview


This week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race will be held Sunday, July 31, at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, PA.. “The Pennsylvania 400” is the 21st of 36 races this season. Pocono Raceway is a 2.5 mile tri-oval, with turns of 14 degrees, 8 degrees, and 6 degrees.The race will consist of 160 laps, (400 miles).

Pole-sitter for the race is Martin Truex Jr. in the #78 Furniture Row Toyota Camry. He won the pole with a fast lap of 179.244 mph, earning his third Coors Light Pole award of the season, his first at Pocono, and the tenth of his career. 

Carl Edwards, Columbia, MO will start second in the #19, Jamie McMurray, Joplin, MO will start nineteenth in the #1, and Clint Bowyer, Emporia, KS will start twenty-eighth, in the #15 car. Jeff Gordon, filling in for the injured Dale Earnhardt Jr., in the #88 Nationwide Chevrolet will start twenty-fourth.

Sunday’s race will be televised on the NBC Sports Network(NBCSN), with pre-race coverage beginning at 12:00 pm central time, with the green flag scheduled for 12:50 pm. Radio coverage will be provided by the Motor Racing Network(MRN).
